Death of a spouse

Death of a spouse

After the death of a spouse, the CAF can make available a social worker to support the family and facilitate the various procedures, mobilise the various financial aids linked to the death (like the notary, organisation of the household, therapy, etc.), offer support in daily life through the intervention of a professional, offers psychological support and opportunities to meet others in a similar situation within specialized spaces and establishment.

The death benefit is a sum paid to the family of the deceased to help with the reimbursement procedures of last health costs as well as the costs linked to the death. To be able to receive this benefit, the deceased had to, for at least 3 months: be an employee, a France Travail beneficiary, holder of a disability pension, holder of an occupational accident or occupational disease pension with permanent physical disability of at least 66.66%. If the deceased was no longer in one of these situations for less than 12 months, the right to the death benefit also exists.

To be eligible, you must also apply within 1 month of the date of death if you are a priority beneficiary (a person effectively, fully and permanently dependent on the deceased on the date of death) or within 2 years if not. In the absence of a priority beneficiary, an order of priority applies, with the spouse first, the children in second and the ascendants in third.
