Death of a child

Death of a child

In the case of a child’s death, several rights of the CAF and MSA are maintained for three months: AB (Basic Allowance), PreParE (Shared Childcare Benefit), family supplement, family support allowance, family allowance and AEEH (Disabled Child Education Allowance), including increases and supplements.

From the 20th week of pregnancy (or 5th month) until the 25th birthday of the child, families living through their death can benefit from the ADE (CAF’s, MSA’s websites). Its amount depends on the household’s resources.

In addition to the 7 statutory days of leave for family events, parents may be entitled, upon request, to additional bereavement leave following a stillbirth (if the viability threshold is reached). The duration is 14 working days (or a longer duration if provided for in the company or collective agreement). In addition, there is bereavement leave: 8 days for employees, and 15 days for the self-employed, practitioners, medical auxiliaries, collaborating spouses or job seekers. For those with the MSA, bereavement leave lasts 7 working days and you can beneficiate from additional bereavement leave which lasts 8 working days (CPAM’s, MSA‘s website).
